Headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, Nintendo Company (NTDOY) is known for its video game console and accompanying games. Founded in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi, Nintendo was originally a producer of Japanese card games. After several incarnations as a taxi service and hotel operator, Nintendo would hit pay dirt with its Nintendo Entertainment System in the 1980's and product developer Gunpei Yokoi's Nintendo Gameboy in 1989.
In 1974, Nintendo entered the video game console arena after purchasing the rights to distribute the Magnavox Odyssey. Shigeru Miyamoto would create Donkey Kong in 1981, and in 1985 Nintendo released its NES system with the ultra-popular Super Mario Bros.
Nintendo's NES system was followed up by the Super Nintendo Entertainment system (SNES).
