Microsoft News - Upcoming

Microsoft will no longer give forecasts for the remainder of 2009 as software sales continue to slip. On February 12th, Microsoft announced its intention to open its own chain of stores.

Microsoft News - Past

On January 22, Microsoft reported net income fell to $4.17 billion during its second quarter, down from $4.71 billion in the prior year period. Earnings were 47 cents a share, down from 50 cents last year.

Microsoft's failed Yahoo! bid marked a flashpoint, although investors may not have realized it at the time. In February of 2008, Yahoo! rejected Microsoft's $44.6 billion unsolicited bid. Before the bid, Microsoft shares had climbed near $35/share. In the days following the Yahoo! bid, Microsoft shares fell roughly $7 in the span of a few trading sessions. By the time Microsoft had withdrew its bid in May, systemic risk had taken hold of the broad market, sinking shares across the board.
