Intuit traded in a consistent range for most of the mid-to late 1990's. A dramatic price increase caused the stock price to surge over to spike near the turn of the century, doubling to trade over $30 before settling into the $25 range. Intuit neared its all time high in October of 2006 and has trended lower since, particularly with the broad-market decline of 2008.
Intuit's October 31st closing price was 25.06, opening at 21.65 on December 1st. The 15.7% November decline was mostly attributable to the systemic weakness that has wracked the broad-market. Despite mounting increases in the unemployment rate, the number of people tax filings likely won't drop at a correlating rate. Yet declining business spending reflected in Intuit's other businesses clearly factored into investors reticence to back earnings potential.
