There is hope on the horizon for the semi-space. Obama's pledge for an energy revolution will pay dividends for the semi space. But short-term difficulties remain. Semi stocks have been felled by broad-market drag along with the rest of the market. The tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite has plunged more than 45% since October of 2007. Intel's January 7th earnings warning will likely play out across the tech sector.

Am Tech analyst Douglas Freedman likes the idea of Advanced Micro discounting prices for Hewlett-Packard to gain revenue support.

JP Morgan analyst Christopher Danely cut his global semi sales forecast for the year to a decline of 20% from 17%, following The Semiconductor Industry's report citing a larger-than-expected drop in November chip sales.
