AMD has had a historically bumpy ride. AMD trended higher in the late 70's and temporarily peaked out in the winter of 1980. AMD retraced some of its advance into 1982 before climbing into the mid-teens in 1984. Over the next 6 years, AMD would stumble and touch a near 12-year bottom in the low single digits by 1990. Choppy trading in AMD shares saw its stock price rise above $10/share in 1993 and below $7/share in 1996. Flat trading during the tech boom was followed by a historic advance and decline from October 1999 to December of 2000 ($8.65 up to $43.81 and back down to $14.13). By 2003, shares had given back nearly all of their turn of the century momentum, dropping to $5.10 in February. AMD reclaimed momentum by riding the stock bubble up to $40.54 in February of 2006, but the subsequent housing and financial meltdown has brought shares back down to low-single digits.
On December 31st, AMD closed at $2.16, representing an 8% decline from its November 28th close of $2.36.
