From its debut up until 1996, Best Buy's stock price muddled in the penny stock-to-low single digit range. Propelled by the dot.com technology boom of the mid-to-late 90's, the electronic retailer soared to into the mid-$30's by 1999. A volatile entry into the new century was followed by Best Buy nearly doubling in price towards $58 per share into 2006. BBY's share price trended modestly lower before succumbing to market drag in the summer of 2008, trading near $29/share.
On October 31'st, Best Buy traded at $26.88. On November 28th, the stock closed at $20.71, representing a 23% decline. Representative of the ills ailing most cyclically sensitive stocks, retailers took it on the chin in November as projections for declining consumer spending settled in.
