Long-term shareholders of Starbucks tell two essential stories: One before mid-2006 and one since. From its IPO in 1992 to about April of 2006, Starbucks share price gradually rose from a penny stock to an all-time high in the upper $30 range. The rapid growth of Starbucks locations in the 1990's propelled a steady revenue growth stream, but over-expansion, saturated markets, and the 2007-2008 recession would wipe out about 75% of its stock price from the all-time high.

Starbucks rebounded slightly in December, following a difficult month's trading in November. On November 28th, Starbucks closed at $8.93 and on December 31st, the stock price closed $9.46, representing a 5.9% increase.
