About the company

Headquartered in Fairfield, Connecticut, the General Electric Company (GE) is one of the largest and most diversified companies in the world. With business divisions ranging from jet engines and wind turbines to finance and entertainment, GE is the prototypical multinational conglomerate with spheres of influence in an array of industries.

Tracing its roots as far back as 1890 with the founding of the Edison General Electric Company, GE is the only Dow Jones Industrial component that remains from its inception.

GE's major divisions are GE Capital, GE Technology Infrastructure, GE Energy Infrastructure, and NBC Universal.

GE Capital is the largest revenue driver, including GE Commercial Finance, GE Money, and GE Consumer Finance.

GE Technology includes GE Aviation, a producer of aircraft jet engines and other aviation divisions.

NBC Universal was formed in 2004 following the joint venture of GE's NBC unit and Vivendi Universal Entertainment. Aside from its flagship station, NBC runds CNBC, American Movie Classics (AMC), MSNBC, Bravo, and the Weather Channel.
