Headquartered in Golden Valley, Minnesota, General Mills (GIS) is one of the largest food processors in the world, boasting well over 100 leading U.S. brands and employing nearly 30,000 workers around the world.
General Mills traces its roots back to 1856 with the founding of the Minneapolis Milling Company by Robert Smith. The company became known as General Mills in 1928 when the Washburn-Crosby Company merged with 26 other mills. Over the next several decades, the General Mills brand would evolve into a leading food producer. By 1995, General Mills would spin off its Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and China coast restaurants into what is known today as Darden Restaurants.
General Mills boasts some of the most popular brands found in supermarkets, including Cheerios, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, Green Giant, Haagen-Dazs, Hamburger Helper, Nature Valley, Old El Paso, Progresso, Bisquick, and Chex Mix.
