Despite statements saying they have no plans to up their greater-than $6 billion bid for NRG Energy, Exelon has been urging the latter's shareholders to tender their shares in exchange for Exelon common stock. Investors are eagerly anticipating the utility provider's Q4 report to gage if Exelon is able bounce back from its decline in operating profit during the last quarter.

Exelon made a more-than $6 billion bid for NRG Energy on November 11, 2008, but the offer was rebuffed by the NRG. On October 24, 2008, Q3 earnings for the utility provider ticked in at $1.07/share ex-items. Net income dropped to $700 million from $780 million in the prior-year period. In the quarterly report, Exelon announced it was raising its dividend 5 percent to 52.5 cents.
