Capital expenditures are expected to fall to 15% in 2009 due to lower crude prices. Chevron is expected to report Q4 earnings on January 8, 2009. Analysts will be looking to see if the oil majors can maintain margin levels despite crude prices dropping at this fall's frantic pace. Chevron, Exxon, and Royal Dutch Shell are expected to decide on their Gorgon liquefied natural gas project relatively soon.
The commodity complex stabilized slightly during November as flattening oil prices calmed volatile energy stocks. On October 31st, Chevron closed at $74.60. By November 28th, the stock price rose to $79.01, representing a 5.9% increase.
