BP History

During BP's early days as a public company, its share price traded in the single digits. Since early 1986 to the end of 1999, BP stock soared to over $60 per share from high single digits. After a retread to the mid $30's in the recession of the early 2000's, B.P. jumped to a new all-time high near $80 at the end of 2007. Systemic risk and falling oil prices closed out 2008, scaling back B.P.'s stock price into the $40 range.

BP was selling in the $60 range when an explosion on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico allowed an oil well to open and begin flowing into the sea. As the environmental nightmare grew worse, BP stock began to fall. It closed at a low of $27.02 on June 25, more than a 50 percent decline in two months.

BP Last Month

BP closed at $42.95 in May and began to settle toward the floor of its trading range, stopping at $27.02. Traders were showing signs of buying the stock again in early July, as the stock again approached $32.
