Headquartered in New York City, New York, Verizon Communications (VZ) is a telecommunications and broadband provider, boasting the largest wireless telco network in the United States. Verizon provides wireless, landline, voice, video, data, and directory operations services.
Verizon emerged from the 2000 Bell Atlantic-GTE merger, of which the former was one of the seven Baby Bells that split off from AT&T Corporation. In 2005, Verizon purchased MCI (formerly the defunct WorldCom). Verizon acquired Alltel Corp in 2008, pushing it past AT&T as the largest domestic wireless provider.
