About the company

Headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, Sprint Nextel (S) is a provider of communication services and products to both individual and corporate customers. They offer a variety of services involved with the wireless transmission of voice and data information. Standard voice services (such as local and long distance, voicemail, call waiting, etc) are also a part of their package. The company's owns the third largest wireless telecommunication network in the United States and the country's third largest wireless broadband network as well. Sprint Nextel also markets a line of mobile gadgets such as cell phones and smart devices along with a variety of calling plans to accompany these products.

Sprint Nextel came about in its current form when the Sprint Corporation purchased Nextel Communications in 2005 for $35 billion, creating the Sprint Nextel Corporation. The company also recently acquired one of its largest affiliates, Nextel Partners, for $6.5 billion in order to gain the capabilities to provide Nextel wireless service to less populated areas.
