From the late 80's until the late 90's, Coca-Cola bubbled up from a single digit stock to post relatively consistent gains on its way to $71/share. Coca-Cola decoupled from the broad-market in mid-1998, coming off its all time high above $86/bbl well in advance of the dot.com collapse. Investors lost their taste for Coke from 1998 to mid-2006, dropping it down to the low $40 price range. A short-lived rally back above $60 was erased in the 2008 global meltdown, retracing back towards $40.
Beverage makers rode the bank rally that sparked an upbeat March for Wall Street. On February 27, Coca-Cola closed at $40.85 and on March 31 it closed at $43.95, representing a 7.5% advance.
