From 1987 to mid-1993, Barrick Gold shares shined, rising more than 354%. Barrick shares hit some resistance around $31/share, steadily trending lower from 1996 to a near-term low around $15/share in 2006. The onset of systemic risk sent Barrick shares soaring from June 2007 to January of 2008, hitting a new all-time high above $52/share. The collapse of Lehman Brothers spared no equity prices as Barrick shares tumbled below $23/share in October. A rebound in gold prices over the past several months has helped Barrick recapture $35/share.
Gold prices ramped up in February after a mild January. On December 31st, Barrick shares closed at $36.77. On January 30th, Barrick shares closed at $37.49, representing a 1.9% advance for January.
