Bush Gets Shoe Thrown at Him

Symbolizing the climactic fall of the Bush Presidency, Muntadar al-Zaidi infamously threw his shoe at then-President George W. Bush at an Iraq news conference in December of 2008. al-Zaidi was a correspondent for the Egyptian- based al-Baghdadiya TV station.

He would later state that his reason for throwing his shoe at President Bush during the news conference was to voice the displeasure of millions of Iraqi's displaced by the American incursion.

al-Zaidi managed to unload both shoes in record time for a reporter throwing a shoe at a U.S. President. Native Americans were soon to bestow upon Muntadar the title of "Shoe Thrower" in homage of his proficiency with footwear.

The throwing of ones' shoe at someone is a sign of deep disrespect in Arabic culture. al-zaidi was quoted as saying, "This is a farewell kiss from the Iraqi people, you dog… This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq."

President Bush, wily as a cat, deftly ducked behind the podium, avoiding a potentially devastating direct hit. His years as owner of the Texas Rangers provided the backdrop for President Bush's dexterous evasion tactics, mirroring a batter getting out of the way of an errant pitch.
