
Fighting to stave off bankruptcy, General Motors moved to restructure its business model focusing on core brands GMC, Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Buick. After receiving billions of dollars in aid from the U.S. government, feds instructed to slash production leading to the potential sale or discontinuation of Saturn, Hummer, and Sabb.
Pontiac was founded in 1926 by General Motors, would become a symbol of the American "muscle car", and in 2009 would be the first major division to fall victim to General Motors restructuring plan. On April 27th, 2009, GM declared that it would drop the Pontiac brand, phasing out all remaining models by 2010.
