
Pulling the wool over no one's eyes, North Korea launched a rocket that they say was intended for space exploration, but most experts conclude it was a test launch for its Taepodong-2 missile.
The six-party talks, involving North Korea, the U.S., China, Russia, Japan, and South Korea, have repeatedly produced few results because of the North's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
After North Korea withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 2003, the U.N. began imposing sanctions on the North in hopes of bringing them back to the bargaining table. But North Korea has only become more defiant on the world stage, threatening stability on the Pacific Rim, much to the dismay of Japan and the United States.
