Aging Bank of America

Back to Gallery

Although Bank of America traces its roots back to 1904, its current incarnation of BoA is a little over 10-years old. The merger of NationsBank and BankAmerica in 1998 created what is currently known as Bank of America grew from what was largely seen as a regional bank based out of Charlotte into what is currently one of the largest financial institutions in the world.

Massive acquisitions like FleetBoston ($47 billion) in 2004 and MBNA ($35 billion) in 2005 would precede riskier purchases like distressed Countrywide Financial ($4.1 billion ) in January of 2008 and Merrill Lynch ($50 billion) later that year.

With all the consolidation happening on Wall Street these days, Bank of America is quickly becoming the old man on the block.
