Taiwan Stock Exchange

The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation was established in 1961 and began trading a year later in Taipei, Taiwan. It includes more than 700 listed companies and has a market capitalization of more than $660 billion. It is regulated by the Financial Supervisory Commission.

The Taiwan Stock Exchange has a regular trading session each day from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a post-market session from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The TSEC is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Since its inception the Taiwan Stock Exchange has kept pace with the market development and implemented the most up-to-date technologies. The exchange has worked with the Financial Supervisory Commission to deregulate and liberalize Taiwan's stock market, and gears itself in line with the major international markets.

The stated goals of the Taiwan Stock Exchange are: to push listings by overseas Taiwanese and foreign enterprises; to develop new financial products and boost the service level; to upgrade the Taiwan capital market into developed country status; and to consolidate capital markets to strengthen international competitiveness.

The chairman of the exchange is Chi Schive, who assumed the position in August 2008. Mr. Chi, 62, has a PhD from Case Western. He was formerly the vice chairman of the Council for Economic Planning and Development, president of the Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance, and chairman of the department of economics at National Taiwan University. The president of the exchange is Samuel J.S. Hsu.
