With that said, significant demand destruction and expectations for economic conditions to remain in flux make the probability of an impactful short-term rise in gas prices minimal. Cuts in production by OPEC and easing inflationary pressures failed to stem the tide of falling prices heading into 2009, translating into a stable energy complex.

As banks cash out and automakers close shop, relief can be had at the pump.
