The problem with the U.S. credit or bond market has touched every part of the economy in a negative manner. Lehman Brothers, one of the largest companies in the country, failed. Citigroup required a major bit of resuscitation from the federal government. The problems have made it difficult for companies to get credit to operate and expand their businesses. Governments and municipalities have had a tougher time selling bonds for various projects. It remains to be seen what the long-term affect the $700 billion bailout will have on the U.S. economy. This could be the biggest anchor on the economy's recovery.
